In this issue the printer's name is absent and the title is within an ornamental border (McKerrow & Ferguson 148).
Other variants of the 1598 Chaucer have a different architectural border around the title page, and have either imprint: London, Printed by Adam Islip, at the charges of Bonham Norton. Anno 1598; or imprint with Thomas Wight in place of Norton's name. Cf. STC.

Title within woodcut architectural border, bearing date 1574, and incorporating initials "NH" and motto "Possidete animas vestras". "The Canterbury tales," "The Romaunt of the Rose," and "The Story of Thebes: compiled by Iohn Lidgate, monke of Bury," each have a separate title within a woodcut border showing the houses of York and Lancaster, terminating in Henry VIII (McKerrow & Ferguson 75). The engraved portrait of Chaucer, preceding the life, has border giving his "Progenie," with coats of arms, etc.
