Materials contained include correspondence, meeting notes, course guidelines, committee files, memoranda, proposals, reports, schedules, grant applications, university policies, personal papers, and subject files on individual colleges and programs. Includes groups of materials from the Committee on the Release of Confidential Information from Student Record Requests, the University's compliance with the Title IX amendment to the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and affirmative action programs.

Biographical Sketch:
The Assistant Provost for General Academic Administration reported to the Provost and was accountable for the implementation of university academic policies and procedures. The office was responsible for developing recommendations regarding budget, organization, personnel evaluation, planning, supervision, program evaluation and program curtailment, as well as program expansion or revision in the Assistant Provost's areas of responsibility. The position of Assistant Provost for General Academic Administration was created in 1980 during a reorganization of the assistant provost offices. The first to assume this new position was Dorothy K. Arata, former Assistant Provost for Undergratuate education. She was followed in 1981 by Lou Anna Kimsey Simon who was followed by Lawrence M. Sommers in 1986. In 1989 the position and the office of General Academic Administration were dissolved in another restructuring.
