Description
Summary:
The Supplemental Education Association booklets consist of approximately 130 black and white booklets (ca. 10 pages each) and 400 color illustrated card stock sheets with subject dividers. The booklets are targeted towards students ranging from kindergarten through junior high school/high school. The card stock sheets are for teachers and feature lesson ideas on a variety of topics. Both the booklets and the sheets cover a cover a wide range of subjects, including arithmetic, geography, history, phonics, stories, crafts, among many other topics. The represented pedagogical style values imaginative engagement with one's own environment and with the wider world, thinking beyond the surface of things, and an appreciation for the interrelated nature of our world - downplaying the traditional approach of rote memorization.

Biographical Sketch:
As described in a finding aid at Syracuse University: Little can be discovered of the Supplemental Education Association. An article in the February 6, 1932 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (p. 498) hints at a connection with the Standard Education Society, Standard Extension University, and National Encyclopedia Company, as all four companies operated out of the same address (Suite 1000-1015, 130 North Wells St., Chicago, Illinois).
