Biographical Sketch:
Selma Waldman was born in Kingsville, Texas. In 1952 she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin. From 1959-1960, Waldman studied art in Berlin as a Fulbright Fellow. During this time, she completed a series of life-size drawings titled "Falling Man," which were later part of a solo installation at the Berlin Museum Jewish department (now the Jewish Museum, Berlin). Shortly after her return from Germany, Waldman settled in Seattle where she became involved in the Seattle Coalition Against Apartheid in the 1980s. Waldman was also involved with the activist organization Liberation Support Movement (LSM). Along with her commitment as an activist and her work as an artist, Selma taught not-for-credit courses at the University of Washington and Free University.
