520 |a In the second Presidential Debate, at Belmont University in Nashville, TN., candidates Barack Obama (D-IL) and John McCain (R-AZ) speak on the economic crisis and foreign policy. Obama says the key to restoring America's economy is to provide a rescue plan for the middle class by cutting taxes and reforming the health care system. McCain blames Obama and his "cronies" for loosening Freddie Mac's and Fannie Mae's lending requirements, which lead to the financial crisis. It is McCain's plan to have the treasury buy bad mortgages and renegotiate housing prices. On foreign policy, Obama says that his main concern for national security will be in the hunt for al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. He focuses on the difficult situation with Pakistan, calling for stronger diplomacy and expand our non-military aid. McCain assures citizens that he knows how to handle foreign crises, citing Obama as inexperienced. McCain goes on to emphasize the behavior of Russia, calling for the diplomacy of the US and it's allies to prevent a second Cold War.
