The results of the investigation indicated that: (1) the divergent counseling treatment procedures were equally successful in effecting change of equivalent magnitude, but in divergent directions; (2) there were no differences in client satisfaction between the two counseling treatments in spite of the opposite directions of change; (3) susceptibility to persuasion and heightened expectations did not significantly influence the magnitude of change; and, (4) the high persuasibility subjects perceived the counseling treatments as more valuable to themselves and others and expressed greater interest in continuing treatment as well as attempting new behaviors.
