There were a total of 40 teachers and counselors. It was felt that these teachers would experience, for the first time, the need to concern themselves with the socio-cultural backgrounds of diverse pupils. Moreover, these teachers lacked the necessary preparation for guiding pupils toward an understanding of the eclectic characteristics of a society because of a lack of experience in intergroup relations. This training program was designed in order to remedy these gaps in teacher preparation. The Institute was held on Saturdays between January 4, and March 17, 1967. (Author)
