|a This report focuses upon Task Analysis as research. It is based upon the fact that the Task Analysis program conducted by the Office of Manpower Utilization (OMU) involves purposive, systematic investigations and analyses in order to prepare reports of findings that will be useful and influential in Marine Corps planning, policy determination, and management. Guidelines are presented for the planning and design of OMU's projects so that they will justify proper respect and credibility and thereby achieve maximum impact and value. Principles and procedures are outlined so that each Task Analysis project can be planned, designed and conducted in a manner consistent with recognized criteria of dependable scientific research. The main emphasis of the report is upon research planning and design. The main topics are statement of the research problem--hypothesis; contribution of theory; operationalizing the research; determining sample size; collecting the data; analyzing the data, with emphasis upon cluster analysis; and the research report.
