A study of approximately 16 gifted third through sixth grade students was undertaken to describe the learning behavior of the group as they interacted with teachers and students. Observations of the students and interviews with teachers were used to obtain the data. Seventeen ethnographic recordings are included in the report. Among the 10 conclusions resulting from the study were that gifted students tended to be isolated from many regular classroom activities, that gifted students seldom volunteered or were asked to assist others, that gifted students do not choose other gifted students as their closest friends in the school setting, and that gifted students do not attempt to monopolize the time of the teacher and seem resigned to their role of being rather isolated from many activities.
