The report concentrates on what parents can expect from a school district in relation to the school's legal and professional responsibility for providing equal educational opportunities for girls and boys. Areas covered include: (1) a definition of Title IX; (2) requirements of Title IX, such as a program coordinator, grievance procedure, notification of policy, Statement of Assurance, and program self evaluation; (3) students' rights to take any class; (4) students' rights to be treated equally in and outside of class; (5) students' rights to participate in athletics; and (6) suggestions for redress if parents feel that their children's rights under Title IX are being violated.
