520 |a Entrepreneurship education is and will likely continue to be affected by various societal, technological, educational, labor force, management, ideological, family, and institutional trends. In the area of the economy, these trends include a rise of middle-class society, the integration of the national economy, and the integration of the national and international economies. Trends in the area of technology include the growth of research and development as a factor in the economy, the development of mass media in telecommunications and printing, and major medical advances. Expanding education and training throughout society, greater involvement of business in training and education, and greater emphasis on assessing program outcomes and effectiveness are trends likely to change the education sector. Labor force and work trends include greater specialization, a growth in the service sector and further decline in the agricultural and manufacturing sectors, more women and minorities in the labor force, later retirement, and a decline in unionization. Management will be affected by an increase in the number of entrepreneurs, a reduction in the number of management levels, and the demise of command-and-control management as information-based organizations become the norm. Institutional trends include increases in the role of state and local governments, big business, multinational corporations, future studies and forecasting, and the demand for social responsibility.
