Description
Note:A book of unprinted leaves on which are mounted illustrations from a 16th-century edition of the Bambergische Peinliche Halsgerichtsordnung, most with text in German visible on the versos. The handwritten date of 1580 appears below the first illustration, though the remainder are not dated. The pictures show legal and punishment related artifacts, persons and situations. In several, dialogue is represented by banners with corners pointing to the intended speaker, in the manner of modern word balloons. Dated 1686 by hand on cover, and bound in vellum with cloth ties at foredge.
