Biographical Sketch:
The first varsity swim team at Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) was formed in 1922 under Southard F. Flynn. The major era of swimming at Michigan State began in the 1940s after the new pool in Jenison Field House opened. There is an Olympic-sized pool at IM West where, in 1959, the U.S. time trials for the Pan American games were held.
