He also talks about his rise in politics and his involvement, as a Michigan legislator and U.S. Representative, in African issues at a time of significant change on the continent. He discusses his anti-apartheid efforts in South Africa and at Michigan State University and his more recent experiences as part of the Clinton administration and his work at Smithsonian.
