Dr. Irma Gross, Professor Emeritus of Home Management in the College of Human Ecology at Michigan State University, recalls her pioneering work in the field of Home Economics and Home Management, beginning in 1921. Gross describes creating a practice house on campus where students and teachers lived, studied and worked. She describes the camaraderie among the professors and students as they developed the study of Home Management as a field. Gross mentions that the women in the program were expected to cook and entertain for campus dignitaries and guests. She recounts the evolution of the school, the creation of a graduate program and the war years. Dr. Beatrice Paolucci recounts the 1950s and 1960s and the shift to an emphasis on family and child sciences, research, Head Start programs, and the merging of Human Ecology with Child and Family Sciences. Dr. Linda Nelson predicts the future of the school. Recorded at a College of Home Economics alumni breakfast held at the Kellogg Center. The theme of the talk is Dialogue in Three Tenses: Past, Present and Future. Recording ends abruptly.
