Summary: |
In Tanzania, incidence of albinism is unusually high, but albinos are looked upon as spirits or human ghosts rather than real people. Their body parts, believed to bring good luck and wealth, are prized for use in potions, talismans and folk remedies by witchdoctors. Albinos, both children and adults, are being killed or kidnapped and mutilated, their body parts feeding black market demand. This program follows Albino United, a Tanzanian soccer team comprised of albino players attempting to change common attitudes about albinos and albinism. |
