Note: | Title on outside flap. On outside flap: Price one penny. The date given in BM and NUC pre-1956 (cited below, [1879?], seems unlikely, as battledores were rarely produced after the 1850s; this battledore was probably produced between 1830 and 1850. At least 4 issues of The new royal battledore appeared, all with identical covers, while varying on the inside. This issue has woodcuts of a woman at a spinning wheel, a cherub on a raft at sea with a woman, possibly an angel, floating overhead; and Old Mother Hubbard showing her dog that there is no food in her cupboard. On the outside flap is a small picture of a zebra. |
