President-elect Barack Obama (D-IL) announces his national security team to an audience in the Hilton Chicago Continental Ballroom. Obama explains why he has chosen these people, calling them the best of the American example. Obama says, "I am confident that this team is what we need to make a new beginning for American national security." Hillary Clinton accepts her nomination to Secretary of State, saying she is proud to work with Obama and Biden during this difficult time in our nation's history. Members of the new national security team each thank the President-elect for their nominations and promise to service the nation to the best of their abilities. Vice President-elect Joe Biden congratulates the President-elect on his choices for the new team, saying they are poised to recapture the totality of America's strength. Biden says "We'll see to it that American leads not only by the example of our power, but by the power of our example." Obama then answers questions from reporters, speaking on the tragedy of the Mumbai terrorist attacks, his stance on countering terrorism, and how Senator Clinton was offered her role as Secretary of State.
