They describe their desire to eliminate the mortgage guarantee agencies, privatize Medicare, and eliminate or dramatically change the Affordable Health Care Act. They also discuss taxes, foreign policy, defense, trade, and making American manufacturing more competitive. Gingrich proposes eliminating court positions and authority, while Paul cautions against tampering with the Constitutional division of powers. Santorum and Bachmann advocate a preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities; Huntsman calls for a new U.S. foreign policy that begins with domestic economic strength; Perry talks about border security; Romney defends his positions on abortion, gun rights, and gay rights. The debate is sponsored by Fox News and the Republican Party of Iowa and held at the Sioux City Convention Center in Sioux City, Iowa. State GOP Chairman Matt Strong delivers a short message.
