Biographical Sketch:
Short-horn cattle were developed in England to serve as both dairy and beef animals. They were imported to America in 1783 where the cattle were found to be very adaptable. Eventually there was a divergence to a breed for dairy and a breed for beef. Auctions of livestock were common in the 1800s and catalogues of the animals including their bloodlines were published.
