Description
Note:The National Archives' finding aid for the papers of the Weld family of Lulworth Castle describes the original document as "Engraving of Lulworth Castle, the seat of Humphrey Weld, delineated by his wife Margaret Weld."
A small caption is mostly illegible in the reproduction. However, an auction catalog entry for a black-and-white reproduction of the original engraving transcribes the caption as "Lullworth Castle in Dorsetshire, the Seat of Humphry Weld Esq.r, delineated by the Lady of ye Seat, bird’s-eye view of the house, extensive gardens and land away to the cove and sea."
In the engraving, the name of the castle is spelled "Lullworth." In other archival documents and in histories of the area, it is spelled "Lulworth."
