Its first meeting was held on June 6, 1808, and its first constitution was printed in that year. The collection documents the Society's administration of membership, accounts and properties through minutes of meetings, annual reports, constitutions, correspondence, roll call and dues paid lists, legal and financial documents, certificates, mortgages and deeds spanning the years 1851 to 1949. The bulk of material dates from the 1930s and 1940s. The collection includes material relating to William Hamilton, Cato Alexander, Philip Bell and Abraham Lawrence.
