In 1991, Russian cosmonauts Anatoli Artsebarski and Sergei Krikalev were stranded on the MIR orbital space station due to political upheaval in the Soviet Union. Unable to return to Earth as scheduled, Krikalev became the first human to live a record ten months on a space station.
