Description
Summary:
This multifaceted journey into the history and mythology of ancient Troy arrives just in time for the feature film release of Troy. Program 1, Rise and fall of the Spartans: Explores the factors that drove the Peloponnesian city-state to martial excellence. Presents a comprehensive guide to the Spartan legacy. Program 2, The Odyssey of Troy: Explores the legendary city's remarkable ruins and examines Homer's The Iliad to unearth the secrets of Troy. Program 3, The Ancient gold of Troy: Examines golden artifacts from Troy. When archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann uncovered the ruins of Troy in the 1870s, among the many artifacts unearthed were stunningly crafted works of gold. Program 4, The Trojan city: Examines the connection between The Iliad and Troy. For centuries The Iliad was considered to be more fiction than fact. In 1873, controversial archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, using clues from Homer's epic poem, discovered the remains of the city he believed to be Troy. Examines evidence found during the 1990s which confirmed Schnliemann's findings and gave new credence to Homer's account.
Note:Rise and fall of the Spartans originally produced in 2002. The Odyssey of Troy originally produced in 1994. The Ancient gold of Troy originally produced in 1998. The Trojan city originally produced in 1997 as a segment of: In search of history.
