Biographical Sketch:
"In January 1957, the Institute of Research on Overseas Programs (IROP) began a three-year study of American universities' international programs, their impacts overseas and their impacts on the universities in the United States. In connection with this research undertaking, financed by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, three types of publications were envisaged." 1. An inventory of international programs of American universities, which was published in 1958. 2. Case studies of selected programs, "resulting in the publication of eight monographs, each concentrating on a particular geographical area: two on Europe, and one each on Latin America, India, Indonesia, Japan, Africa, and the United States." 3. Volumes summarizing the findings of the IROP with assessment of "their theoretical significance and policy implications." Edward W. Weidner served as the director of IROP at Michigan State University. Source: Indonesian-American Cooperation in Higher Education by Bruce L. Smith (1960)
