| 545 | |a William G. Lockwood was a professor of anthropology at the University of Michigan from 1969-1997 specializing in Balkan, Eastern European, and Romani studies. The Lockwoods were members and key organizers of wine societies in Ann Arbor and this collection documents their activity and comradery.The American Wine Society was founded in 1967 by Dr. Konstantin Frank intended to bring together growers, home winemakers, and winelovers. Since then, many local chapters developed, including the Ann Arbor chapter. Meetings were held at members homes, with a program and a theme-based wine selection established by the hosts. Program topics included home winemaking, foreign and domestic wines, wine buying, among others. Meetings were divided between men only and mixed men and women. | ||
