545 |a The gay, lesbian, and bisexual rights photographs were taken for various newspapers and press photo agencies, including the Chicago Sun-Times, the Detroit Free Press, Keystone Press Agency, Field Enterprises, the St. Petersburg Times, and the Boston Herald. Some of the photos are credited to particular photographers, including Mike Adaskaveg, Bryan Alpert, Brian Alpert, Bierman, Bob Black, Barbara Haddock, Graff, Mark Ivins, and Jonathan Wiggs. Three of the photos from 1977 depict protests directed at the singer Anita Bryant. Bryant's campaign against an anti-discrimination ordinance in Dade County, Florida, turned into a nationwide anti-gay rights campaign. The Dade County ordinance was repealed due to Bryant's campaign. The gay community's counter-protest included a boycott of Florida Citrus products, since Bryant was their spokesperson at the time.
