Summary:
The turning point for Allied forces during World War II was the landing on the beaches of Normandy. Gaining a foothold on the European continent was imperative, if the Nazis were to be defeated. The largest military operation ever attempted, Operation Overlord took place on D-Day, June 1, 1944. A huge American army had been recruited, trained, and equipped to help reclaim Europe from Hitler. After two years of delays, the massive battle plan along the French coast would come together. This ABC New program tells stories of the young men who became soldiers on that day.
