520 |a Professor and research chemist Isiah M. Warner was born in DeQuincy, Louisiana on July 20, 1946. He graduated as valedictorian from Carver High School in 1964. Warner earned his B.S. degree in chemistry from Southern University in 1968 and his Ph.D. degree in analytical chemistry from the University of Washington in 1977. He went on to become the first African American hired on the chemistry faculty at Texas A&M University, where he remained until 1982. Warner also worked at Emory University for ten years. In 1989, Warner went on leave to work at the National Science Foundation, where he served as program officer for analytical and surface chemistry. In 1992, Warner joined the faculty of Louisiana State University, becoming chair of the chemistry department, vice-chancellor for strategic initiatives, and Boyd Professor. Warner published over 230 articles since 1975 and received numerous awards for his research, mentoring and teaching.
