|a William M. Cox (1834-1901) was a Quaker farmer who lived in the Jericho Friends community in Randolph County, Indiana. Although a Quaker, he served as a First Lieutenant in the 134th Regiment of Indiana Infantry during the Civil War, from May to August 1864. He retained the regimental roster and used it as his account book. The collection comprises a ledger he used for household accounts along with a few other miscellaneous documents. The most interesting feature of the volume is its listing of the soldiers in the regiment, which includes personal information, ages, and birthplaces. Unfortunately, some pages have been lost, making the roster incomplete. A few deaths of family members and neighbours, and a few diary-like entries, such as an outbreak of the measles in the family, are also included.
