Senator Sherrod Brown (Democrat, Ohio) talks about General Motors' announcement to cut 15,000 jobs in the U.S. and Canada and to idle five factories, including an assembly plant in Lordstown, Ohio. Brown criticizes GM's actions and argues that it is not tariffs on steel that have caused layoffs, as GM says, but rather a tax bill passed under the Trump administration which gives a fifty percent tax break to companies who move their production operations overseas. Senator Brown also says that the American Cars, American Jobs Act, which is now before congress, would give U.S. customers an incentive to buy cars made in the U.S. and would likely help to prevent future layoffs of American auto workers.
