|a Linguistics scholar Beatriz Arias delivers a lecture on the changing population demographics in southern California. Arias highlights the socioeconomic disparities between ethnic groups and the implications they have for communities. She notes that while minority populations are steadily increasing in southern California, there remains a continual lack of representation in public office. She argues the concerns of minority groups aren't being prioritized and activism is required to prioritize them. Following the lecture a panel of scholars lead a discussion on their experiences as members of minority groups. Carl Ryan, Don Nakanishi, and Dr. George Roberts discuss affirmative action programs as well as the importance of education and representation. The panel concludes the discussion answering questions from the audience.
