Their stories began when they were young girls in Laos. Their families were forced to flee after the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. Surviving hunger and disease, they eventually settled in the United States. Through their stories, these women provide insight into the Southeast Asian refugee experience and the changes challenging them as they break from a patriarchal family structure and assimilate into American society.
