Inscription in pencil at head of title page almost entirely erased (unread); bookseller's description, by Patrick Olson Rare Books, Lowell, Massachusetts, available in MSS 466, Box 8, Folder 90.
Binding Information:
From bookseller's description: "In a new limp vellum binding of modern manuscript waste, this in a custom four-flap enclosure [in brown cloth, with printed paper label to spine]. The pamphlet came to us unbound. We struggled to come up with a period-appropriate binding for such a slight piece that wouldn't rely on actual early manuscript or printed materials. Credit for the idea of commission new manuscript 'waste' goes to Bexx Caswell-Olson, Director of Book Conservation at the Northeast Document Conservation Center. James Reid-Cunningham of Cambridge, MA, bound the piece, with his deftly twisted vellum tackets. And the breathtaking calligraphy is the work of Maryanne Grebenstein of The Abbey Studio. [...] In her [Grebenstein's] own words: 'The cover narrative is an excerpt from a medieval astrological text introducing The Sun in Taurus, with the red lettering translating to 'so here starts the sun to grow strong and th[e day to grow long Sol in] Tauro' (bracketed text trimmed off), with raised gold to emphasize the 'T' in Tauro. The cover materials are calfskin vellum, 23.75K gold leaf, Higgins Eternal Ink and Winsor & Newton Gouache and gold ink. The lettering style is loosely based on that used in the Luttrell Psalter (British Library Add MS 42130) created between 1325 and 1335. Calligraphy, gilding, and painting by Maryanne Grebenstein of the Abbey Studio, Marblehead, MA. It was created in 2020.'"
