520 |a Entertainer Jasmine Guy was born on March 10, 1964 in Boston, Massachusetts to William Guy and Jaye Rudolph. She attended Northside High School of the Arts and received a scholarship to study dance with the Alvin Ailey Dance Center in New York. Guy danced with the Ailey Center for several years and had several small roles in musicals and television including Fame, Grease, The Wiz, and Leader of the Pack. In 1987, Guy was cast as Whitney Gilbert in the television show A Different World. She starred in her first film, Spike Lee's School Daze, a year later. Guy won six consecutive NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. In 1992, she appeared in CBS's Stompin' at the Savoy. Guy's passion is about projects that promote and preserve African American history and culture. She wrote an autobiography of Afeni Shakur, Afeni Shakur: The Evolution of a Revolutionary.
