No one in her family was directly injured by the bomb, but her father went into the city afterward and encountered the black rain and radiation. Everyone was able to receive their genbaku techō. She says that her parents first talked to her about the bombing when she was eight years old. She talks about the various illnesses her family suffered, including her younger brother who developed brain cancer and died at the age of 59. She describes how her aunt, who lived in Hawaii, would send her gifts, including chocolates and clothes. She went to high school in Kyoto. She got married in 1966 and moved to California; her husband was a Sansei. She talks about her struggles with cancer. She discusses her experiences with the biennial medical checkups.
