"Michael Shephard" inscribed in a contemporary hand twice on front wrapper and once on rear wrapper (in several variations); blank sheets tipped between calendar pages (five total) by means of sealing wax, bearing notes in an early hand (Shephard's?; some in pencil) regarding weather, the arrival and departure of various vessels (from and to Boston, Baltimore, Paraíba, Sumatra, and other ports), as well as personal notes; marginal note in the same hand on leaf A6v regarding the schooner Generous arriving from and leaving for Paraíba; mathematical calculations in an early hand on front wrapper and title page (some in pencil); additional stray markings and notes in pencil in several locations throughout; piece of wove paper found between leaves A3v and recto of tipped-in leaf, removed and now available in MSS 466; portion of vignette on front wrapper outlined in ink; pencil inscription on front wrapper: "Dup, 1-16-14".
