To the Honorable the General Assembly of Maryland, the memorial of the subscribers, citizens thereof, respectfully represents : your memorialists are of that class of the citizens of Maryland, long subjected to the pressure of political disqualifications, by the operation of a religious test in the Constitution of the State : and they approach your honorable body ... that an Act passed the 29th of January 1823 "to extend to all the citizens of Maryland the same civil rights and religious privileges that are enjoyed under the Constitution of the United States," may be confirmed ..., becoming thereby part of the Constitution.
