Description
Summary:
A Web page providing digitized recordings of interviews conducted by Robert Penn Warren in his research for the 1965 book Who Speaks for the Negro?, with abstracts and biographies of the participants. The interviews are with leaders in the civil rights movement or other prominent persons associated with it. Material planned for inclusion in the site but not yet present as of Apr. 10, 2008 includes digital copies of the correspondence, transcripts and other printed materials related to the book. Also includes the announcement for and a list of participants in the conference We Speak for Ourselves, held in Nashville Apr. 3-4, 2008, and sponsored jointly by the Robert Penn Warren Center for the Humanities, Vanderbilt University, and Fisk University. The interviews are browseable by participant name or subject, and the abstracts and subject descriptors are keyword searchable. Some of the interview recordings are actually mounted on a University of Kentucky website but are linked from this site, and some of these include transcripts in PDF format.
