520 |a Problems in education of the younger generation as opposed to the adult generation in the Canadian Arctic were considered in both social and cultural perspectives. Cross-cultural effects were seen to be of substantial influence in the development of problems. Relatively simple, isolated community structures prevailed in early northern Canada but, in recent years, a process of urbanization has eliminated many of the smaller communities. Technology and the influx of non-indigents have also affected the region. An awareness of these factors, plus the uniqueness of the Canadian Eskimo culture and characteristics, was seen as essential to understanding this minority group. (BD)
