520 |a Contained are the results of a survey designed to determine the demand for engineers and technicians in industry, education and government in June-July, 1968. Questionnaire returns from 926 organizations employing a total of 270,617 engineers and technicians constituted the basis for the analysis. Some of the major findings are that (1) large organizations employed most of the technical manpower - 62% were working for companies with 5,000 or more employees, (2) 44% of technical personnel were working in 24 major metropolitan areas, (3) in terms of industry group, manufacturing provided 60.3% of the sample followed by government (19.2%), non-manufacturing industry (16.0%) and education (4.4%), and (4) more than 60% of the responding employers establish recruiting goals on a regular basis, most often during one particular month each year. Also contained is a discussion of employment by curriculum, employment by function and growth of engineering employment. Numerous statistical tables, charts, and bar graphs are included. Copies of the questionnaires used in the survey are also included. (LC)
