520 |a This is the third progress report on a 5-year longitudinal study of the labor market experience of a national sample of middle-aged men. The subjects were interviewed for the first time in the summer of 1966 when they were between 45 and 59 years of age. Twelve months later the sample was reinterviewed. Data from these two surveys are presented in two earlier monographs (ED 026 525 and ED 039 331). The present report utilizes data collected by means of a mail questionnaire in mid-1968 and by personal reinterviews with the sample in mid-1969, which helped to describe the magnitude and patterns of change in the status of the respondents that have occurred over the first 3 years of the study and to identify some of the causes and consequences of these changes. As in the two previous reports, analysis is based exclusively on cross-tabulations of the data. The five chapters of the report are: (1) Changes in Personal and Family Characteristics, (2) Longitudinal Measures of Labor Force Participation and Unemployment, (3) Job Changes, (4) Collective Bargaining Coverage and Hourly Rate of Pay, and (5) Summary and Conclusions.
