|a This speech reviews attitudes on higher education in relation to race, relevance, students, and alienation. A curriculum of engagement and commitment is recognized as a need in higher education. Recommendations suggest a cross-pollination of academic catalogues combining curriculum in each school or department and making it available to the student body. Additional emphasis is placed on the need to combine the abstract and the relevant in the classroom. (MJM)
