Description
Summary:
The study focused on the individual attributes predictive of performance and work satisfaction in two contrasting work situations: (1) with a simple task to be perceived as low on job structural attributes (LJSA) and (2) with a more complex task designed to have a higher level of job structural attributes (HJSA). The job structural variables of job complexity, variety, responsibility, and external feedback were manipulated. It was expected that different attributes and combination of attributes would be predictive in the two task situations. A sample of 33 male and 25 female undergraduate students participated in the experiment. The data are presented, with lengthy discussion, in 38 tables which comprise the major portion of the document. The results demonstrate the strong influence of individual attributes upon performance and satisfaction on two monitoring tasks with different job structural attributes, and also indicate that complex interactions between individual and job structural attributes determine task performance and satisfaction.
