Description
Summary:
CHOICE, Center for Helping Organizations Improve Choice in Education, has four primary purposes: (1) to collect and make available to the higher education community knowledge and materials relating to the provision of better information to college applicants; (2) to provide technical assistance to institutions seeking to review or improve the information they provide to applicants; (3) to assess the impact of "improved" information on students' college selections and on institutional operations; and (4) to contribute to the development of policy alternatives for use by governmental and nongovernmental bodies active in the area of information for prospective students. This report provides information on "Focus on CHOICE," a slide-tape presentation that describes some of the history of current views of students as consumers in higher education and some implications for the future, discusses the rationale behind increasing federal and state involvement in regulating the information provided to the college applicant, provides brief examples of what some colleges and universities have already done on their own, summarizes the work of the National Task Force on Better Information for Student Choice (1975-77), and outlines the ways in which CHOICE hopes to extend the Task Force's efforts. Also included is a summary of what becoming a CHOICE cooperating institution involves, and how to apply to become one. (Author/SPG)
