520 |a Once a year, all children in grades two through four in the schools of a suburb of Copenhagen, Denmark, are administered silent reading tests. The test scores become the basis for an hour-long dialogue between the respective classroom teacher and a reading specialist. The focus of the dialogue is the improvement of instruction for each child, and therefore an attempt is made to alert the teacher to the interaction between reading development and instruction with the hope that future instruction will be arranged with a clearer view of individual needs. Results from the project show that the general reading progression within the school system has changed and that the number of children with reading problems has been reduced. (Author/FL)
