Middle States. College-Bound Seniors, 1978.

The most recent College Board Admissions Testing Program (ATP) records of 1977-78 seniors who registered for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of Achievement Tests before March 1978 are summarized. The records are for students from the middle Atlantic states that include New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The data includes SAT scores for males and females, verbal subscores, Test of Standard Written English Scores, and Achievement Test Scores. High school record information includes the latest, self-reported grades; number of years of study by subject; self-reported class rank by SAT average; and estimated high school grade point averages. Ethnic background, annual parental income by ethnic group, and estimated parental contribution toward applicants' education by SAT average are among the socioeconomic characteristics reported. Information on college plans includes degree-level goals; plans to ask college for special assistance, by areas of need and ethnic group; intended areas of study; intended specific fields of study; advanced placement plans by honors course participation; housing preferences; and extracurricular activities in high school and plans for college. The type of high school attended (public or other) is also reported. Much of this information was obtained from the Student Descriptive Questionnaire administered through the ATP. (JMD)
