The model consisted of a five-hour workshop which included these elements: (1) an introductory slide presentation which provided an overview of sex stereotyping; (2) five group activities (The Exchange, A Closer Look, Taking Stock, What a Difference a Word Makes, and Building Our Image); and three pre-postassessment instruments designed to determine the degree of awareness of sex bias and stereotyping (Sex Awareness Instrument, Current Behavior Practices Questionnaire, and Personal Commitment). In addition to the three instruments, the Bem Sex Role Inventory was used to obtain feminine, masculine, androgynous, and undifferentiated scores of the respondents. Following pilot testing, the model was tested on eighty-one female home economics educators and fourteen male vocational counselors. From the results, it was concluded that the sexism-awareness workshop was effective in bringing about a statistically significant increase in degree of awareness of sex bias and sex stereotyping in vocational education.
