520 |a This literature review examines four conceptual areas: (1) interorganizational collaboration; (2) the use of intermediary agencies; (3) the improvement of educational practice; and (4) the increase of educational equity. A focused review of the conceptual issue, a bibliography including research and literature citations, and abstracts of the most relevant writings are provided for each area. The literature suggests that there is a general mandate for collaboration and a widespread consensus that it is imperative for institutions in our society to collaborate in order to maximize the utilization of limited resources; it also indicates pitfalls to be considered when collaboration is undertaken and offers strong arguments for regarding intermediaries as critical linking mechanisms for achieving effective collaboration. Rather than an exhaustive study of the literature, this monograph represents a targeted inquiry and is suggestive of the kinds of literature reviews which may be needed in the future. (Author/RAA)
