520 |a In an attempt to replicate the Wisconsin model of status attainment, this report introduces and analyzes new data from a thirteen-year panel study of males and females, average age of seventeen in 1965-66 (N=6795) and age 30 in 1979 (N=5844). (The Wisconsin model elucidates the important role of high school educational and occupational aspirations and significant others' influence in both the translation of advantage from generation and the role of achievement ambitions and interpersonal support as socialization mechanisms that place individuals in the social structure.) Descriptive statistics and standardized and metric regression coefficients for educational and occupational achievement equations are compared with those reported for four established data sets. Preliminary estimates from the new data generally are shown to compare favorably and as expected with results from earlier studies. Exceptions are noted, as are significant points of noncomparability between the data sets and important limitations in the present form of the new data. Results are interpreted as preliminary, tentative, and qualified support for an implicit null hypothesis that the new data are not likely to produce radically biased estimates for established population parameters.
